Build & Design

They feature a stylish design with subtle details that bring out the earbud’s character. IPX7 ensures safe use in any weather conditions, while the charging case is small, light, and easy to transport.

The packaging presentation on the AeroFit is clean and professional, with a soft white and blue design on the box in classic Soundcore style. The earbuds are inside an extremely lightweight and pleasantly compact charging station with three LED indicator lights on the front lower half. This charging case is easy to open and only requires just one hand when the case is held vertically. The hinge on the case is stable and doesn’t move around when opening and closing.

Aesthetically, the earbuds have a beautiful design with subtle accents that bring them to life and add character. The patterned driver covers on the inside of the buds are a nice touch that, while subtle, adds flare.

You won’t need to be concerned about wearing these earbuds in the rain as they have an IPX7 rating and are also protected from sweat.

The AeroFit features an hook design with a bendable extension that wraps over the top of the listener’s ear. This design style is notably different from many other designs where the driver is made to fit into the ear canal. With these earbuds, the intent is for the driver to sit just outside of the ear and allow you to retain the ambient sounds around you, a design associated with an active lifestyle.

Comfort & Fit

Featuring a design that has the earbud sitting outside the ear canal, the AeroFit is polarizing, and the experience varies greatly between ear shapes, with the earbuds being specifically designed for smaller ears.

Despite claims from large publications that these headphones have a more secure fit than traditional earbuds, the truth is that the fit is variable, based on one’s ear shape and ear size. In their marketing material, Soundcore states that they are designed for small ears. We had some of our staff try on the pair that Soundcore sent us and found noticeable differences in how the earbuds were seated in their ears. Sometimes, sitting above the ear canal, while for others, aligning it rested in a more suitable location just outside the ear canal.

Earbuds have no guarantees in how they fit, with each individual having a unique ear shape and size, and this is a leading cause of customers returning their earbuds to retailers.

When I tested how the AeroFit performed during moments of movement, I found that at least on my ear, they were sufficiently held in place, and I could run, bend, and go about my daily routines without feeling like they would fall out. Additionally, they are lightweight and don’t burden the ear.

Audio Quality

The AeroFit sacrifices some audio quality in exchange for a stable fit and environmental awareness. While the midrange is clear and defined, there is a lack of bass, and the treble can sound a little harsh without EQ adjustments.

With these exercise-centric earbud designs, there are trade-offs between audio quality and the awareness of your surroundings. They are designed especially for runners and joggers who need to be aware of the roads around them while exercising or who want to retain communication with gym buddies while working out.

Because the AeroFit doesn’t form a tight seal in the ear, some sacrifices need to be made, including the presence of deep bass. The midrange frequencies are more pleasant, with vocals sounding relatively clear and defined. They have a slightly overemphasized treble, which causes tight snares to sound overwhelming, particularly due to the lack of bass.

Because the Soundcore AeroFit focuses on awareness of one’s environment, they are not very immersive and are best suited for casual listening during exercise. While they fall short of traditional in-ear models in terms of overall audio performance, it is challenging to find earbuds that use a traditional in-ear design that is still reliably stable during exercise.

By using Soundcore’s mobile app, you can fine-tune the sound of your AeroFit to better suit the way you love to listen to music. Three EQ presets and a custom graphic EQ are available through the app.

Battery & Charging

Fast charging with long battery life, the AeroFit can last over a week with regular use, making it ideally suited for use away from home.

As always, battery life varies depending on the volume, and each situation will vary. The AeroFit is rated for up to 42 hours of playtime (including the charging dock) and up to 11 hours for the earbuds from a single charge.

During my testing, they lasted for just over 10 hours before needing to be recharged in the charging station. With the station’s battery life, the overall playtime achieved was an impressive 37 hours and 23 minutes. The fast charging design, coupled with the long-lasting battery, provides sound peace of mind when traveling.

App & Controls

Soundcore’s mobile app provides precise control over the sound and controls of the AeroFit, allowing for graphic and preset EQ adjustment and control mapping.

Soundcore’s app gives users versatile control over the way they use their AeroFit. It offers comprehensive control over audio performance by including both EQ presets and a graphic EQ, while the controls section allows for precise control mapping for each earbud.

When using the earbuds for the first time, it’s important to go into the settings and set up your controls. By default, several functions are unmapped, including volume control through the earbud. The app allows you to map three controls to each earbud: a single press, double press, and long press. It also lets you adjust the default controls.

In addition to EQ and control customization, the app also displays the battery life for each earbud and the charging case. It’s a small, simple feature, but it proves very useful in practice.

Microphone Quality

The microphone quality is better than expected, producing impressive clarity and the ability to reduce ambient noise effectively.

These earbuds feature a built-in microphone, which allows you to take calls while running or working out. Microphone quality from earbuds and headphones tends to disappoint, but the quality of the AeroFit microphone is surprisingly good. It captures sufficient detail, with vocal clarity and noise suppression.

The audio samples above provide examples of the microphone quality in a quiet room and then while standing next to a loud fan creating high ambient noise. The AeroFit can reduce most of the noise.

This is especially useful for runners and gymgoers who may need to take a call while in a high-noise environment.

Conclusion

The Soundcore AeroFit is an earbud with a very specific purpose, to provide a stable fit for those who perform rigorous exercises. Its over-ear hook design isn’t for everyone, and if you’re after immersion then the AeroFit is likely to disappoint. However, if you want an earbud that provides awareness of your surroundings by sitting just outside the ear canal in order to play music while working out – the AeroFit has a lot of merit with decent sound quality, comfortable fit, and impressive microphone quality.
